EH 17 - Evolution

If we want Homo sapiens to have a chance at another 10,000 years or so of civilization, we can no longer afford a global economy that's dependent on heavy resource extraction and trashing of ecosystems.

Stan Cox puts the point out clear and simple. I will have an essay at the howdt.com soapbox on timber economics that details an example of this philosophy.

i will put up a twin lake photo with each post for a bit :-)

It is nice that we can all go out into the forest and imagine a world on non extraction. Then we go home in our automobiles, sleep in our stick framed home and post comments on technology that consumes energy.

Sure, and damn proudly. There are ecologic means of resource extraction - i didn't say don't cut trees or don't mine ore. The land is very forgiving. But it is a cyclic process and if we interrupt a cycle, we get a build-up of one material.
I'm not willing to give up the standard of living, but i'm guessing that were going to have to. We just don't have to willfully convert intangible value into dollars ( or yen!)
Cool comment - thx
