Orange glop for lunch

Take a half cup of water and add a small potato, half a turnip and a quarter of a large beet and allow to cook down for about half an hour. Add a pat of butter, mash and salt to taste. It was yummy, just sweet enough and with a texture similar to mashed potato, with a bright orange color. Got my starch and vegetable quota for the day - using roughly equal weights of the root crops.

Next time, i will consider adding garlic. I think this is one dish where over-spicing the contents would lead to overwhelming the flavors. Us folks living here out in the sticks would be well served to learn gore mett cooking - that art form that uses subtle spice to accentuate the meal. I like to eat, i like to cook - just too bad i cook for one these days. It's much easier to cook a gourmet feast than a single portion.
