Re - again

Have been howdt of town during this week - trying to reconnect with nature, amongst other things. The rapid changes in life are forcing a re-thinking about how things get done, or don't get done. It is time to drop some of the old assumptions and re-investigate the mechanisms of life, the universe and everything. Keeping a positive attitude is of great importance in dealing in the world of today.

The march of conversion into monetary units has become insane. Finding a new education strategy and re-educating ourselves based on what is real seems to be the only way to continue - we will likely be stranded where ever we are when the gas crunch hits - going along to get along is not an option. Being pro-active and doing something that provides value is the only means of remaining connected.

I wonder if ...

It seems that things are not what they seem. Pushing forward in the money chase only prolongs the disaster - world events are a distraction. I have seen too much TV and MOvies in the past three days - it tells me how many people are not all here. I know that i am not all here, but i do not know quite what to do about it. So, I'll just keep blogging.

Movement

Sometimes it requires outrage in order to get over the energy barrier and past the inertia. The activation energy helps move us past the hump to where we manifest a new reality with respect to the same old problems. Identifying too much with material possessions keeps us sticking to old, outdated concepts of what to do with our time. Focusing on the work that we feel is really important - like dr. lenny continuing writing despite the dearth of payment - will whet the skill such that when the next outlet arrives, the preparation will meet the opportunity, resulting in good luck. Let's look at alternative currencies, like love and time, rather than dwelling on the monetary aspects alone. We can become more of a community by listening, rather than by everyone talking at once.

message to self

Who are you? What are you? What were you? What will you be? Anticipate how it was when and will be again. Listen to self. Walk away with thought of where to go - light and incredulous. Seek healing and reverberate at an acceptible frequency. Engage in an estimate of self-reliance and get over the identification phase. From the other end, you will be glad you did.

The plan of life goes how it is supposed to go. Frame of mind dictates form and function. This website can be considered the diary of the strange. Counting gets one into trouble, real numbers are used to represent things as they are not. Our models are only models, not the real thing. If you can remember yourself and your experiences, you already know how things are. Get it together now, because by the end of the month, opportunity will be gone. Provide a service on the scale that you can handle - connect to the network of life in your own weigh, on your own path.

You are just another water droplet in the ocean of life.

I missed this place

Back again - the site has been down for a few days. Seems like years have passed. Much going on - will have to deal with some issues and then get down to brass tacks. Or phosphate tacks as the case may be.

Planting the seed of community

Everybody needs to believe in something. Most of us believe in our own ability, but we find our thought patterns restricted by our chosen inputs and our prior education. It is difficult to be open to the new and very difficult to remain in the now. Change happens rapidly, yet the pace is almost non-existent on a daily time frame. We deal with whatever comes our way. Agenda setting is a tough task, especially when the boundaries and limits are artificially set by others. To act in today's world, we must maintain an existence based on rules of order preset by people who are long gone. Advantage is taken by working the system. What we need is a good strong chaos to develop a new working order that is an alternative to the present context. Belief is the starting basis of this quest.

As the cost of distribution of goods and services increases beyond the capacity of most people to maintain, the value of those who push paper and provide no real service as work will diminish. Economy will have to be based on substance, not vapor. Harmonics of growth dictate that we have to plant seed today to create the material basis for life tomorrow. Determining how to balance spirit, material and form through the earth changes requires conscious thought. The time has come to evaluate action paths - we can come together or come apart - it is up to us to decide the mechanism and to follow both our personal and our common agendas. The community that we build today will be the one that cares for us tomorrow - choose wisely based on your own ability and vision.

spooky

There seems to be a lot going on, even though not much is going on. The ability to communicate is changing, where knowledge seems to be transmitted through the air, rather than requiring writing or speaking. Telekinesis or some other celestial offspring has it clicking. There is way more to what is going on than meets the eye.

I noticed that blogger came up without the editing options of changing the font and color. I will make this post and do the editing later, if allowed. My guess is that we have moved another step into the void - the change is here, but we have our reactions limited by the need to remain in this time and space. Meditation can call us into another location, but then it may be a matter of coming back - what happens when the there out there that we expect is no longer there?

It is going to be hot this weekend. Take care to not burn in the sun. :-)

the last hurrah?

The whirlwind called last week has hit the fan. I am very pleased that i decided not to attend the solstice party tonight - the world mood was extremely false positive this week. The situation on the ground is getting to the point that people are almost ready to grasp that the whole concept of being is being altered. I had the privilege to visit with a few sovereign individuals on a deeper scale this week - the breadth of perception was enormous. People are being drawn into this community by a sense of resonance - the metals vortex somehow is making this location a power site on the world energy grid. The convergence of skill sets is dynamic - we should be able to rock the world.

Learning who has skill is a very entertaining adventure in life today. Watching people in action in the outside world has become my new sport. Today's lifestyles display massive stress as people see that it is coming apart and yet refuse to recognize that its already here. There is still some room left on that card - several more items in the closet - another draw on the retirement stash. Doesn't matter the income level - their style is crimped. They have to keep up the appearance, provide that effort for a paycheck that binds them to the day in and day howdt grind.

Everybody has their own point of view and they are absolutely correct. Just ask them. They know how to do everything, and whatever Faux News says is direct gospel. When illusion conflicts with reality, we know which wins. Deal in your own world and what you choose not to face is the part that comes back again and again because you didn't quite get the lesson the last time. If it doesn't work the first time, try it a second time, or a third. Results are part of the continuum of happening - probability governs as opposed to yes or no. Absolute chaos leads to a much more natural order - let it go all at once and get creative on the local level.

Define your role for yourself. We are actors in a cosmic cast of billions on this scale and the number will decrease precipitously. Connect with other like thinking people and get your collective act on the same script. Frequency of vibration seems to govern thought pattern - with transmission occurring in quantum dimension. Which means the more, the merrier - the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. I am a scribe - setting the record as i see it, documenting truth for its own sake. I am also a bard of chemistry - applying myself to the task of measuring and monitoring. Strange things are afoot - the full moon shines deep. I'll be waiting with my notebook. Enjoy solstice this weekend, then be ready for whatever comes next.

Visited the new location for the Anastasia eco-community yesterday afternoon. It was a powerful experience. Our group of a dozen included a vastu math person, and a pair of dudes that traveled to Russia to see the dachas and meet with Vladimir Meg're'. Earth Changes

What is happening is a convergence of time and energy, space and matter. Consciousness has increased the visibility of the 'end of time' as we conceive it and the reality is that reality is an illusion. There is no way to win the new game - just to be able to play will be a distinct trial. Our choice is to place blinders on and continue to walk in economic destiny, grabbing rungs at the ladder bottom and hanging on as the paper chase cleaves each rung in succession or we can walk away. Leaving has no set game-plan, no place to go. The catch 22 means that it will rapidly consume everybody at all levels - each at their own rate, in their own style. If we cleave rungs on our own, we may force time to happen sooner than later.

As the world counts down to 2012, the harmony of the spheres will affect conscious thought. There seems to be a quickening with rapid evolution and increasing tension affecting the world populace. Those most aware of the earth changes seem to have an intoxicated spirit. We know we all are part and parcel to the happenings. In a way, it looks like global cleansing performed by Gaia is shifting the path away from niches that our science has so precisely defined. If we follow fractal geometry, we are likely to retain half of what is here and get half completely different than what we 'know'. Thus the illusion of reality referred to above.

It appears to be the end of the reading of the current human DNA strand. The analogy is to cell biology and the division of one cell into two by meiosis. The pattern seems to follow the fibonacci series in the separation of threads. Very similar to the mycelium network found in the duff of forest ecosystems. The numbers also define the golden mean ratio that guided the positioning of the pyramids in relation to the Sphinx. History crossed by biology twice gets kind of spooky when too many coincidences start to come up. E=mc2 (square). As the earth changes, we change with her.

What do you see when you open your eyes and look?

book learning

sometimes we lose track of the basics. rolling up the sleeves and diving into work without knowing what to expect will often bring up issues that are overlooked in the planning phase. there are many different scales of thought - and being way howdt there will often give a different picture from just a simple task. but if you cannot accomplish the simple, how can you imagine doing the complex?

reading books is a lost art. fiction books describe imaginary scenes to tell a story and teach a lesson. non-fiction provides reference information that documents persons, places and things from the perspective of current time. as busy as people are these days, time to bury yourself in a book is hard to find, unless you put your mind to it. it is a nice escape from reality, without some screen processing information at you. entertainment from video games, television and movies provides an easy to grasp perspective that allows thought to be directed to a certain point of view.

i believe that my mind imagines the world based on the last few books that i have read. i see the routine from the author's perspective and imagine instances that support the thesis. when i find inconsistencies, i relate whether the author is correct. tv used to be the information delivery system of choice, but internet as a content provider seems to have taken a good share of the action. the details provided make a different world view than the simple times we grew up in. the books i currently read offer hints of how we should think tomorrow.

currently on my table are p.d.ouspensky, The Fourth Way : vladimir meg're', Rites of Love : isaac asimov, Prelude to Foundation and miles mitchell, Tailings from the Golden West. the combination of direction is meant to influence my writings, such that i can make the next conceptual leap in the development of eco-community. the model is a cross between galt's gulch from ayn rand, Atlas Shrugged and ernest collumbach, Ecotopia.

i figure that if the energy runs howdt, i want to be prepared spiritually and physically for the work that will need to be done.

June 06, 2008

Work

Work is the output of energy. Energy comes in many forms; changing the form of energy comes with a net loss of output. At this point, most people work for a living to keep a roof over their head and food on the table, but the satisfaction that we draw from the work is not fulfilling spiritually, emotionally or physically.

The current system gives us two patterns, identify with a group or look howdt for yourself. We need both. Currently, life comes with reliance on the infrastructure. It is the way we were taught and is really all we know. There are many false realities embedded in the structure; the actions that we as individuals take seem more to the benefit of the political overstructure than to our individual well-being. Those of us who feel spiritually connected emphasize positive contribution and constructive criticism, but often it is taken wrong. Many people feel like they need to vent negative emotions at other people, which brings everybody down a notch. We should promote diversity of opinion and try to look at novel approaches to the same old problems.

Part of what we lack is the administration and staff to accomplish the work. Too many chiefs and very few indians. People that facilitate work have been getting dumped on for so long, that they really do not exist any longer - there is a serious disconnect between doing things the way they have always been done and doing things that work to produce the desired goals. Setting realistic goals is difficult, because people do not know what to do. Life is overwhelming.

Rural areas do not have the economic capacity concentrated to get rolling, especially with fuel energy prices skyrocketing. The people are spread out and living in their own little worlds, trying to keep up. Cities require food delivery, which is grown in rural areas and transported to urban areas. Since corporate agriculture requires profits based on growth, the net flow of material is out of the cyclic loops and into linear growth. Water and aerable lands are the key - how do we keep these in production?

A new systems approach to work is required. Resources need to support communities that produce viable work - corporations only support profit making. Chasing the money is not sustainable and is wreaking havoc with our harmonics. Time for thinking deeply about a better wholesale approach.

Peace

What is peace? Too many people see peace as a vehicle for piece - their way of getting in on the action. The current scene is everybody panic over lack of dollars to float the boat. The only way that we can get along is by giving up the idea that everybody has to think the same thoughts in the same way. Chill howdt! A diversity of approach might give us a shot at solving a few critical problems. At this point, rather than playing war games over national security, we should be looking at food security. Or lack of it. What happens when food is too costly to ship halfway around the world? Can we rely on local agriculture?

Our need is to focus internal rather than external. I'd rather export millet than bullets. The earth changes are happening, so we had better get used to creating new means of local community support structure. Strawjet is a building material based on waste fiber - the wave of the future is converting your waste into somebody else's raw material. Building soil is very necessary. Building community is even more necessary. The time has come to hitch up the mule and get the goats bred. Money is tight at all levels and the stress level is getting higher by the day. All we are saying, is give peace a chance.

or Boom, Boom - howdt go the lights!

RPG Existence

Working on developing a live action RPG, but having problems with the scenario. Since my on-line access is currently limited, i cannot test drive the game on Second Life, though i would like to. How many folks have the time for role playing games today? Life has become one big role play in a very collapsing system.

Good luck and have a happy June Existence. I expect to be planting seed gardens and mushroom spores. There is still snow in the hills - go figure. Enjoy!!

Set up a new website for the Universal Sovereigns of a Living Earth yesterday at www.usle.org . If you have the chance to look and peek, i wouldn't mind having some feedback. Ecotopia Emerging - book review

Just finished rereading Ernest Callenbach's Ecotopia Emerging. For a book written in 1981 - he sure had the current economic situation pegged to a tee. The book takes the states of Washington, Oregon and Northern California and groups them into their own eco-region. It is a fictionalized account of economic vs ecological battles.

One of the key factors is the development of a solar cell on the cheap and easy to reproduce. The book has the invention created by an 18 year-old woman. If such a cell has been designed, it probably rests on a back shelf in some oil company locker. There are some very good reasons to develop such a cell for use today - if all the tinkerers had some energy to spend in that direction. Just found this.

The politics is somewhat radical, but having been through the third party ringer with the Reform Party, Dr. Lenny can relate to the circumstances. The current one party with two faces system is just an old boys network for fostering corporate bank accounts and feeding the war machine. Callenbach gets very close to the current middle east status - a pretty good vision considering that the book was written prior to peristroika.

I recommend this book to anyone looking for a different visual outlet on current societal status. The methods described for Survivalists may have some bearing on preparations that can be taken in the event of total economic dissolution. This book is a prequel to the book Ecotopia, but it stands on its own without the need to read the first book.

Logical Solution Revolution

Building a local economy to support local community requires local financing. As we look at the miasma of the current economy, the wealth that we own is located inside people's homes, in their valued possessions. With the banking system evaporating, these items will be the collateral for exchange in the logical solution revolution that is coming rapidly.

Building a community energy exchange will help to transfer wealth amongst the people building service into the community. If we can track hours spent on a project as a medium of exchange, then the people doing the work will have a commodity that they can use for trade. In-kind contributions have been used successfully by non-profit organizations - having people put their service to work is an extension of this system.

It would also be useful to have coinage rather than paper money. The current $600 windfall per taxpayer was created howdt of thin air to keep the current economy going. It should be enough to pay next month's gas bill. But if there are no means of production, then hyperinflation will ensure that our funky colored funny money has no intrinsic value. The Liberty Dollar folks had the right idea - be your own mint. It will be interesting to see if the value seized by the feds ever gets returned to the rightful owners.

Right now, it is easier to hoard your remaining wealth than it is to invest it. The investments available rely on trust in an every growing economy - we can all see the fallacy when we remove the blinders. Finding a net neutral means of common support for intentional community is the way to go. Perscription will not work. Each individual should take responsibility for their own approach and blend it together with other sovereign approaches. Some will work, some will not - we can duplicate the efforts of the means we find satisfactory. It takes thought and willpower with a hands-on approach.

Resource recovery

Too much politics and policy and too little ecology in the thought patterns. So let's get back to nature. The water cycle, the carbon cycle and the nitrogen cycle all involve circulating material in forms where they are available for use. The earth relies on the symbiosis of plants and animals working together to produce carbon dioxide and oxygen. When you look at all the dynamics involved in keeping the momentum going, you realise how unique the system we call earth really is. It is somebody else's system, but i kinda think we have to embrace it - eh sunni?

Dr. Lenny is getting ready to head back into the world of laboratory science as an assayer for a mining company. Mining is way up there in the ripping and tearing the earth industries, but resource extraction is an area that is ripe for biodynamic systems analysis. If there is proper remediation of mine sites after the work is done, the restoration process could seed a very viable industry. Stamets book, Mycelium Running, takes a good look at myco-remediation - spreading a network of mushrooms to build up the soils and mitigate the chemical content in the area. I have some theories about metal extraction using mushrooms, lichen, moss and various plant species - but first i need to get up to speed on the skill set required for knowing how much substance is there in the first place.

It seems to me that mining landfills would be a high priority for metals recovery, as the substances are already refined and processed. Much of the trash that we have thrown away in prior decades now has a high intrinsic value. However, i have heard that construction wastes and plastics are the bulk of the material - i guess i need to do a bit more research on the topic. One question that i have is in assessing the validity of the written material on the topic - how do you know whether to believe what you read? This is a more universal problem than just the resource recovery area. Is what we know really valid, or have we been taught to think in such a way that we think in patterns that are perscribed rather than thought howdt?

'Enquiring minds want to know.'

What is a sovereign?

The Universal Sovereigns of a Living Earth is an organization of stewardship set to counteract the current paradigm of duality. The members take responsibility for themselves and by their actions foster self-reliance by developing biodynamic living systems, in harmony with the bounty offered by our planet. Current technology has overburdened the natural mechanisms of life, such that nature no longer has a redundency of process to take care of metabolism. The mass harvest of climax ecosystems for profit has eliminated the ability of earth to continually generate clean air and clean water. The current cycle has manifest itself in a physical energy excess, with release via stress and tension across may populations of different species. Capra, Suzuki and Kotke have all discussed this process during the past three decades.

As various necessary niches are left abandoned, the material process builds up in a single form and the biocycle shuts off. Many of the symbiotic relationships built over centuries have atrophied in the last five decades. In this current century, amphibians, bees, birds and bats have all seen population crashes. Viral infections spread rapidly. As the domains of the small become more monocultural, the domain of the large quickens in rate of disappearance. Time is accelerating.

Sovereigns are leaders into the next paradigm, the paradigm of unity. All life shares the same form of DNA. Life exists at many scales, sharing common consciousness in several dimensions, creating incredible thought patterns. The current pattern needs reformulated human thinking - with the ability to combine matter in new ways to produce living energy flux. Our current comprehension of nature is far less than we think, but our vanity as expressed through our recorded history leads us to believe a picture far from reality. Our purpose should be truth for its own sake, rather than pursuit of wealth.

The Sovereign mindset is service to nature. We plan to remediate landscapes by imitating natural process and fostering ecosystem growth. By using techniques like phyto-mining and myco-remediation, introducing biodiversity at many different levels, we can succeed in setting forth a novel new pathway in support of the earth, rather than at the expense of it. We Sovereigns will walk our walk - learn by taking action and doing as best as we can. You can do this too - be responsible for yourself first and keep in mind your impact on nature as you work through your day.

Time to Change Gears

Outflow excedes income, so savings evaporate in order to keep this economic system going. As more individuals break step and standards of living fade, the social safety net develops holes that are beyond repair. Depression is real in several senses of the term - and regulations stifle our ability to deal with it. Between taxes and inflation, there is no there there. Black markets thrive as danger lurks. While doers keep on doing, the logistics required to get materials in hand are becoming impossible.

The time has come to change gears. There is no joy in Mudville, because everybody feels the tension and stress of trying to keep growing more, when we have depleted the resources beyond our ability to sustain that growth. Doing more with less is a foreign concept, but one that needs to be taken to heart to accomplish the major task - survival. If we treat things like a video game, then maybe the next generation will comprehend - the joystick seems to be the only motivations of today's youth. Music can carry a message, but dispersing the tunes intergenerationally may be a tough task. A new mindset is required - time to think howdtside da baax.

Science has become a religion that manipulates reality into smaller bites of comprehension - but the inserts never quite fit together to explain the big picture. The models that predict are not realistic when it comes to duplicating reality. It seems the basic assumption of space/time is howdt of whack. The real question should be can we reduce the human footprint to allow the earth metabolism to build redundant methods of accomplishing the production of sustanence - clean water, fresh soil, nutrients, etc. Perhaps we can become stewards of the earth, but it requires a desire on our part to do so. Grasping the concept of sovereignty and taking care of what you can do, on your own, is the first step toward reaching the goal of keeping a mutually supportive ecosystem for humans on earth.

The current postings will attempt to provide some mechanisms for how we can get things done - by working with what we currently have and building with an eye toward the future. Universal Sovereigns of a Living Earth is a multi-dimentional conception - believe what you will, but do what you can. Rely on yourself first, with a major intent of stopping the self-sabotage that we bring with the current mindset of growth conquers all.

Be well and at peace with yourself and your compatriots.

future community

The keys are to build through intention and preparation. The mechanisms for providing clean air and clean water are in our own hands. Change in behavior is difficult, but necessary to produce items of ultimate value. We as people must rely on ourselves, rather than the values of the corporate kleptocracy - our toys should be derived from nature rather than created from technocracy. Built in obsolescence is not a path to harmonic sustainability.

Economy needs to be based on the manufacture of food and fiber, directed at meeting the needs of the local population. Transportation should be simple - most people will not be able to get very far away from home. Intercommunity exchange of people will accompany the trade of material goods - education on a hands-on basis will be the means of transfer of knowledge. Simple joys and common entertainment may lead to building a common intelligence - but land stewardship will be the priority. Service oriented focus on remediation of disturbed earth, using mycelium, phytomining and other intrinsically soft footprints will provide a healthier place than initially found.

Personal integrity will be the driver of what can be done. Mutual cooperation requires sharing leadership roles and playing each role with dignity and respect. As time progresses from today into tomorrow, there can be a turning of the page of reality from what we have to what we want. My current goal is to be of service as a catalyst for change - hopefully i can blog mechanisms of how to get there from here.

we know too much that is not true
no longer discern truth when we hear it
in order to create our path every day
we must turn to the science of spirit

sufficiency

now is the time of action
perform the tasks for today
that when tomorrow arrives
yesterday no longer dominates
thoughts combine with preparation
planting seeds and sharing bread
commitment across divided lines
universal sovereignty reigns

reality check

looking at life, what time we create
in application to our interests
sometimes struggling to land the flow
swirling miasma spirals throughout
cutting against the grain to find seed
ready to plant to create paradise
get your head set into proper mind frame
get your body set into a healthy collective
earth charges coming to recalibrate
nobody knows the depth of recreation
setting the plate to alter awareness
ostriches prefer to ignore signs, head in sand
followers become leaders become bodies
Gaia will be active no matter what the cost
breathing while constructing mechanism of breadth
dreaming while constructing mechanism of depth
countryside yearns for filtration - clean water and air
diverse mixtures carrying the waste of human excess
choking the lifeblood out of natural process
by providing dead end routes to nowhere in particular
thus the current machine reaches its final destination
the bang overcome by a whimper - no notice given
like a hyperspace byway constructed through the galaxy
life will find itself looking at completely new circumstances
who is this life? what is its purpose?
stewardship of planetary substance appears the route
mitigating the causes of particle exchange
trying to catalyze the rate of flux to a lower steady state
grounding out the excess energy
relieving tension and stress

by eliminating the population
driving process at slower speed

separating time from space into unity - they are all the same
the way we look at life must change
life will not look back for us

once the process is running to generate the future
people become a convenience
potential path of ready change

we did not work the natural exchange
to enable the earth to breathe

change of pace will diminish human influence
as Gaia restores her breadth and depth
prepares to get on with life

Travel thoughts

Got the chance to drive my rig a few hundred miles this weekend. The costs of gas and food is beyond absurd. I learned to deal with a flat tire, then made the contacts necessary to get business done. It seems that my energy is way down from where it used to be - driving gets me very tired. Of course, changing the flat helped increase the work load, now i will have to locate a replacement spare. As rosanne rosannadanna said - it's always something.

When you read this, take the time to think about something. Life has been dealing the cards fast and furious lately, sometimes we forget about all the good things that happen. It was very good to catch up with old friends and family - taking the time off to get howdt of town is something we often put off until it becomes too late. Hug your kids and smile. Be good to you, so that others can too.

More thoughts about intentional community - it takes time to get people on the same page. Perhaps we need a game of survival at an internet site to get people prepared for the coming storm. If each person starts a garden and sets aside 10% for seed stock, then we might have a chance beyond this year. As it looks now, smoke and mirrors are the major phenomena - and the money is not keeping its value. Find people that you can share with, because that's the only way were gonna make it - in groups of 10-20 conscious folks pulling in the same direction. Food and fiber, housing and water. Clear clean water!!

I'm still here

Wow - it has been awhile. I just got net access - we shall see if we can post with some frequency. Life has been hard - bet it's gonna get harder. If there is anyone out there working on building intentional community - i'd like to know. It seems like a fiber based economy - flax and hemp - might be the only solution to maintain local rural economy. Grow your own food and clothing. It also may be necessary to grow your own housing unit. I have been working with several folks - will try to put some more ideas out.

Also - started reading the anastasia books - the ringing cedars series. Seems fantastic, but it addresses the same issues as i have been looking at. The economy has not treated me well and so i feel like i am at the cutting edge of the system collapse. Looking for work, but not sure that i have the proper skill set. Better get back to life - if you are not paying attention, somebody is taking advantage of you. The system will eat everyone eventually - so try to stay well.

life in tents

train wreck coming
all aboard is status quo
hidden people between slats
with no where to go
once boards are consumed
engine chugging on
combustible air emitted
as our voters within us
are handed another favor
when there is no push
to combat another shove
the song ends suddenly
with uneven notes
pray we get it together
a long cold winter unleashes fury
and i cry while maintaining
as cassandra on a pedestal
no ear for the support
a mechanical walk through life.

shadows

sailed off into
the edge of white
tumbled in darkness
floating images recur
cold illumination
of a future not to be
keeping faith
the answer to a question
to strive to do right
as everything points left
pick up the broken pieces
move on to the next phase
the edge of black and white
is a figmentary place
people grow up, move on
while the earth waits,
healing

Immediate follow thru

Decided to spend the time blogging the theory of metal transport. If it gets too deep - well, mea culpa. If this makes sense - dr. lenny needs some active support to delve further down this trail.

Inorganic poisons based on metal centers tend to accumulate in biological systems. The chemistry of biology generally has one favored way of doing things and several more energetic back-up systems that can be used effectively, but not optimally. As heavy metals and other strongly charged large metal ions are introduced, they substitute for the ubiquitous first row transition metal ions. The latter are relatively small and comfortably divalent in the resting state.

These metal systems tend to be at the active sites of enzymes. The active site is like the control and guidence system of chemical biology - it makes sure the organic substrate gets into the next form, where it can be cyclically used in metabolism. Enzymes are protein based catalysts. They function by lowering the energy necessary for bond making or breaking. To remove the heavy metal, a chelator compound is necessary - one that has a specific affinity for the invader. Sometimes the metal forms a precipitate - a solid that appears in forms such as arterial plaque.

The charge difference in metal substitution is very important. When Al 3+ replaces Mg 2+ in a biomolecule, it also causes the loss of a Na +1 or K +1 ion. This creates a hole where there used to be an ion - because the net charge must remain balanced. It also creates free space. Molecules are crowded fairly close together and will move into any extra room where is can get confortable and be slack.

Sometimes the new ion inserted into the system is large enough to bridge connect chains and create bonds between side chains that would not otherwise be spacially close together. This creates a different folding pattern in the proteins tertiary and quartenary structures - the levels that dictate the atomic arrangement in space. These types of bonds shut down function, some refer to the modified enzymes as prions.

As far as scale - when a few cells pick up a toxin, the loss of function can be handled. But when multiple waves of metals accumulate, eventually the pathways shut down and survival of the organism comes into question. Remember, both the thermodynamics and the kinetics have to work to get things right.

This is a description of how metals work in biological systems. It might also offer an alternative explantion for prion type diseases and offer some constructive thought in the design of remediation techniques for chemically contaminated lands. By looking at hyper-accumulators in lichens, mosses, liverworts and fungi, we may be able to design ecological systems that stabilize and restore. Of course, nature does that with its time anyway.

Thanks for reading.

Global Warming Comment

Ecologists seem to wish to blame global warming for the demise of the salamanders. They site the ozone hole and UV radiation. Consulting Occam's Razor - perhaps the persistent poisons used against the weeds and bugs that are considered pests have caught up with the rest of the food web. I spent some deep time thinking about the transport of metals in natural systems. If somebody is interested, i will post deeper thoughts on the topic.

BTW - we saw more snow this weekend, than i can remember.

timelines are important in a relative sense, because events unfold in their rightful sequences. i try to be proactive in dealing with reality and illusion - since i have trouble telling the two apart sometimes. often it seems like things with set dates and times are real, until the time for the event to come down arrives. this is contrary to expectation - the political illusion world is the dominant model, while consciousness bides time and awaits a paradigm change.

what does it mean to define Alice's rabbit hole? are we moving through an hourglass from one comprehension to another? dreams play an important role on the landscape - what we envision has the potential to come true. we get what we desire, but rarely in the form we expect. each of us may guide our own ship, with the rudder of personal philosophy guiding our somnambulistic stroll throughout life. if we awaken, we can guide our actions, but to what end? that depends entirely on the scale that we choose to work, and the ability to define what the work is and to get it done.

measurement on each scale is necessarily different, but the protocols used should share a similar approach. by identifying the variables, the course of action can be followed and observed with respect to these factors. the actor in the monitoring role needs to detact his identity from the system - the numbers do not reflect anything about the measurer, just the accurate measurement process. finding the detector is a matter of self-awareness.

Land Management Techniques 101

Dr. Lenny and the Universal Sovereigns of the Living Earth are preparing for spring workshops in aspects of intentional community living. The object will be a demonstration of ability to manage land and water supplies in the event of a system halt. Once the food distribution system no longer functions, there will be roughly two weeks of transition and then we will have to provide for ourselves. The length of time prior to system halt is indeterminable - so efforts should start to provide food and fiber, shelter and entertainment this spring, as soon as possible.

Informational knowledge provided by the current political system is inconsistent, so reality fits the form of expectation, with a twist. We get what we seek, but rarely in the form in which we expect it. By removing negative emotions and replacing it with intent, we can develop ourselves to better accomplish tasks and goals - if we can formulate them. This would be defined to us as harmonic survival - but most call it sustainability.

So how do we fix this mess? Head-on and direct! We feel the need to demonstrate functional ideas that work in practice. The current system will never admit to messing up big time, but if you look at the institutions of this system, they are decaying and crumbling as we speak. We must not identify with this collapse. If we watch our personal negativity and contribute contrary opinions with value added rather than malice, then we can effect change ourselves. The advantage of thinking howdtside da baax is that you can approach things from multiple points of nucleation. The Universal Sovereigns use an ecosystem biology model view of life - which seems to be closer to the physical reality of nature than other model systems.

When we find the proper venue, the media will disperse our information. But our energy and focus for the endeavor must be collected from within. The ability to move raw materials laterally in addition to forward will be necessary - place 'waste' in a form that would be useful in the future. Belief in tree of life or the web of life matters not - all is connected and there are many means of approach for the same tasks.

Water storage will be the major factor in most places. The ability to use fresh, clean water first is one of the simple assumptions we make in current life. If we identify the order of use, we can provide a descending quality scale that reuses water many times before flushing it off into the septic systems. The extraction of materials that have exchangible value will also be of major concern. Ponds and cisterns should be built to collect surface water, while wells are the staple for ground water. Basic water analysis would include pH, turbidity, salinity, hardness and concentration of impurities. Coliform analysis is necessary for potable water. An all in one kit to measure these water properties should be assembled at each living site. Each property does not have to be measured every time, but calibration and quality control records should be maintained, along with appropriate meta-data.

If this rings your bell - stay tuned at this substation. Comments are greatly appreciated. Physical location is not a barrier - but hands on integration of the results of action is absolutely necessary. You have to do something to learn anything of value. Happy 2008.
